How It Works

The tumescent technique infuses a mixture of local anesthetic, epinephrine saline solution (similar to what you would get in an IV), that is injected and infused into the area being treated. It numbs the area and constricts the blood vessels reducing the risk of bleeding or blood loss. And, most importantly, there is no need for general anesthesia.

Typically, you will receive a relaxant to reduce any anxiety or nervousness and pain injection may be used for a greater level of patient comfort. All of this adds up to making fat removal safer, easier, and more comfortable with little or no blood loss.

After the area had been infused with tumescent solution, a small tube called a cannula is inserted into one or more tiny, inconspicuous incision and the unwanted fat is suctioned away.

In addition, Dr. Nowak utilizes the power-assisted technology which rapidly moves through the tissue removing small amounts of fat at a time. This movement creates a vibration that some patients describe as being similar to a massage providing greater patient comfort.

The injection incisions are so small they close up naturally so there’s no need for stitches.

Patients should expect their procedure to last from 30 minutes to two hours depending on the areas being treated.

What to Expect

Patients may have some bruising or swelling after treatment, but these will fade away as healing progresses. Some of the numbing liquid comes out during the procedure, some is absorbed naturally by your body and some may drain from incision site for 24-48 hours. The fluid may be pink or reddish color but contains little or no blood and more blood is lost during the laboratory blood analysis prior to the procedure than during this procedure.

The average healing time is up to six weeks, but improvement is visible almost immediately and patients are requested to walk and get moving the next day. It’s often known as a weekend procedure where patients can have the procedure done on a Thursday or Friday and can be back to work Monday or Tuesday.

You may be asked to wear a pressure garment for days or weeks after your treatment to help skin contract and speed the healing process.

A 24 year old Female patient and Navy Sailor,had a twins and do to this pregnancy she developed a umbilical hernia, had excess of skin and a lot of stretch marks. She was looking to get her curves and shape that she lost after pregnancy. Dr. Nowak performed Power assisted Liposuction in her Midsection. This procedure was performed in 2004 and she went from using size 12 to a size 8. Patient was amazed of the results. Pictures taken 6 weeks after the liposuction was performed.

This patient was concerned about reducing the size of her thighs and interested in having more balance and shape. She was never able to use the same size top and bottoms. She went from size 14 to size 10 and lost 21/2 inches from each side.
