As our faces age, volume from the upper part of the face and cheeks falls due to gravity and settles in the jawline, creating jowls and accentuating the smile lines (nasolabial folds). Volume is also lost from the temples, under eye area, cheek and sub cheek region. This can give a person a tired, worn out look.
Nutrition, environmental factors (such as smoking), and genetics all play a role in the loss of collagen and the thinning of the skin’s dermal layer. As a result of being less elastic, our skin will start to show fine lines and wrinkles.
Juvéderm® is a smooth, hyaluronic acid based gel filler used for the treatment of mild to severe facial creases. It’s commonly used to smooth out face wrinkles, plump lips, and correct acne scars. It can also reduce the lines on the forehead, fill in under eye hollows, enhance cheek volume, enhance the jawline, as well as reduce the aging appearance of hands.
How It Works
Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of hyaluronic acid – a naturally hydrating substance. Like a sponge, its primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face. As we age the amount of hyaluronic acid diminishes, causing our skin to lose structure and volume, thus contributing to the appearance of lines and folds.
Juvéderm works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid to our skin. Immediately after injection, volume is added and the appearance of wrinkles and nosolabial folds are diminished.
Juvéderm is different than other hyaluronic acid fillers due to its unique formulation. Hylacross technology is used during the manufacturing process to give Juvéderm its special smooth-gel structure that holds up over time.
